We all "open our mouths" when we are tired or when we haven't had enough sleep. Yawning, a strange physiological phenomenon, occurs in humans as well as in dogs, monkeys, birds, and almost every known vertebrate species except giraffes (yes, that's weird too).
Based on several brain scan studies, yawning increases the activity of a small area of ??the brain called the precuneus, which plays an important role in spatial orientation, memory and awareness. So, in this context, yawning or opening the mouth helps us with concentration and attention.
Dr. Andrew Newberg, a neuroscientist and author of numerous books on the subject, including Brain Weaver and How God Changes Your Brain, encourages yawning even when you're not tired.
Sounds impossible? Its not. Just give a few fake yawns and after a while the truth will come. Doctor Andrew's advice is simple:
"Yawn as much as possible throughout the day, when you wake up, when you're dealing with a difficult problem at work, when you're getting ready for bed, and whenever you're feeling angry, anxious, or stressed."
Despite these exceptions, it seems that a yawn is not only a good way to keep us from falling asleep during the night shift, but also a way that can help us focus for peak performance. It's an intriguing concept that you have nothing to lose by trying it.
