In a communication to the media, Prime Minister Rama spoke, among other things, about the vaccine that our country will receive, focusing on its price.
"We are at the stage where we are trying every day to guarantee the vaccine in the first place, starting with the vaccination of doctors, nurses, white shirts, teachers, police officers and all in a row. Keep in mind that an extraordinary effort is being made by all countries to have certain quantities available. But the quantity that will be produced will not be all that is necessary from the first day, but there will be an escalation. "What we need is not to be left in the lurch, and secondly, to make the vaccine available to these categories of people."
Then he added:
"We are not at the advantage of being vaccine-producing countries or big and powerful countries or the European Union itself. So we are making every effort not to be left out of this process and not to wait. That is our challenge. "
Regarding the award, Rama clarified:
"Then cheap or expensive, that's another topic. We have left nothing to the people when it comes to things related to the most important elements of life. We will not leave this obligation deficient, regardless of the price. It does not mean that we will only get one type. We can take from all kinds if we will have the opportunity, as others are doing. "No country, as far as I can see, is focusing on just one."
Recall how the " cheap vaccine " experts are referring to the Oxford vaccine and the company AstraZeneca, which has proved very effective and also has some advantages over other vaccines . Oxford / AstraZeneca has joined Covax, the program run by the World Health Organization to distribute vaccines to all countries and has reached agreements with manufacturers in other countries, including our country.
In a meeting organized with experts of the immunization committee at the Institute of Public Health, at the end of September, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, said:
"Based on your valid recommendations, the Council of Ministers has approved the signing of an engagement agreement with the Gavi alliance, to provide a safe vaccine against Covid-19, through the Covax mechanism, to which 80 countries adhere, including European Union countries. "
