To most people, performing a sex scene in front of a room full of people and cameras sounds like a really hard day at work. But for some actors, it's a regular part of it. However, this does not mean that these moments always go smoothly or that they are simple.
Occasionally, actors get excited during the filming of sex scenes, and it is the task of the production team to keep things professional and comfortable for everyone involved - despite the extremely embarrassing situation.
David Thackeray, an intimacy coordinator for many Hollywood studios, explained how actors and productions handle these accidental "awakening" moments. According to Thackeray, it is important to "understand that this is normal and that the worst thing you can do is keep going."

During a January 2019 interview with Mashable, intimacy coordinator Ita O'Brien (who worked at Netflix Sex Education) shared a similar approach to filming sex scenes.
"I'm there to help, making sure everyone is okay with the scenes and the nudity. I give a structure and process to get through the sex scenes. Having that structure is definitely helpful in case someone it starts to feel in a way. ”
How often do actors turn on while shooting sex scenes?
It is a good idea to have a facility in place in case things turn out to be more than professional territory, but it may not always be necessary. Often, when actors discuss work behind the scenes of sex, things sound more troublesome than amorous.
During a January 2021 interview with Glamor, Phoebe Dyvenor talked about shooting the hottest scenes - and it wasn't that easy.
"[The masturbation scene] was the hardest scene to shoot ... You feel very vulnerable in those scenes," she explained. "The stage instructions are very specific: you have to end up having an orgasm."
Other celebrities have also opened their minds to filming sex scenes. Justin Timberlake, who filmed many sex scenes with Mila Kunis for "Friends with Benefits", told the BBC:
"In fact it's somewhat annoying, you're there for 12 hours, it's exhausting. "All those scenes revolve around dialogue and physical humor. It's so tedious."
Samira Wiler from "Orange Is The New Black" also felt like her sex scenes were definitely not sexy.
"It was definitely not sex. "It felt very mechanical," she told the Huff Post in 2014.
"Outlander" Caitriona Balfe had a similar opinion about the shooting of these intimate moments.
"I can not say that I like all the sex scenes. "They are never more fun to film," she told the Express in February.
