Following the announcement of the jury's decision on July 2, where Sean "Diddy" Combs was found not guilty of abusing and sexually trafficking his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, the singer has reacted through her legal team.
Her lawyer, Douglas H. Wigdor, in a statement to Us Weekly magazine, emphasized:
“This entire criminal proceeding began precisely when our client, Cassie Ventura, had the courage to file a civil lawsuit in November 2023. Although the court did not find Combs guilty of sexual abuse and trafficking of Cassie beyond a reasonable doubt, it paved the way for justice to find him guilty on the other charges.”
Wigdor further added:
“By sharing her experience with the public, Cassie has left an indelible mark, both on the music industry and in the fight for justice. Without any reservation, we reiterate our full trust and support for our client, who showed extraordinary courage throughout this process. She demonstrated extraordinary strength and brought to light the truth about the dark reality of men in power and the abuses that have occurred for decades without any consequences.”
In conclusion, the legal team stated that they will continue to fight on behalf of survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking.
Sean “Diddy” Combs was tried on five felony federal charges, including: involvement in a criminal group, human trafficking for the purpose of prostitution, sexual abuse and other serious offenses.
However, judges found him not guilty of trafficking for the purpose of prostitution in the case of his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and "Jane Doe."
He was found guilty on two other counts, also charging him with trafficking two girls for the purpose of prostitution, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The prosecution has requested that the sentences run consecutively, meaning Diddy could face up to 20 years in prison.
Cassie Ventura, who initially filed a civil lawsuit against Diddy in 2023, testified at trial in May and recounted multiple instances of physical and sexual abuse.
