Quentin Tarantino believes Alec Baldwin is partially responsible for the fatal shooting of late filmmaker Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust. On the latest episode of the "Club Random with Bill Maher" podcast, the host asked Tarantino about the incident on the set of the movie "Rust" in October 2020, in which Baldwin shot cinematographer Hutchins with a prop gun.
"I can safely say that the person holding the gun is 90% responsible for everything that happens when it comes to that gun," says Tarantino. "But at the same time, the actor is also 10% responsible because it is a weapon and during the making of a film and the filmmakers and the actors, both parties have responsibility."
The famous director highlights the fact that there is a procedure, which is detailed for the actor who carries a firearm during the shooting of a movie.
"If there are steps that need to be followed and respected, then a lot of care needs to be taken by everyone and this is true in the production of any new film," he continues.
We recall that Baldwin accidentally fired the gun that was supposed to be used for the scene, killing the cinematographer and injuring the film's director. According to Santa Fe authorities, Baldwin, who is also a producer of the film, fired the gun causing an incident that ended in fatality.
The murder charge against actor Alec Baldwin was dropped in July after the judge overseeing the case said prosecutors did not properly turn over evidence to the defense. A judge in New Mexico dismissed those manslaughter charges against Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin, agreeing with the defense that prosecutors and police withheld evidence about the source of the bullet that killed filmmaker Hutchins.
