In a lengthy Instagram post, Britney Spears has opened up about one of the most difficult periods of her life: the three years without communicating with her two sons.
The singer, 43, confessed that during this painful time, her marriage to Sam Asghari was simply a "false distraction" that helped her cope with the pain.
"We are only human, so fragile and so human... the hardest years of my life were when my boys were gone for three years," Britney writes, alongside a photo of herself naked, with her back to the camera.
Her marriage to Sam, which began in 2022 and ended in 2024, seemed to Britney to be more of a form of escape than a real relationship.
"I was cut off from being able to call or text my boys and in that shock, my way of surviving was denial... and lots of tears. It was weird. We were married, but I felt like it was just a false distraction to cope with the pain," she added.
In a more sensitive moment, she also spoke about the healing process:
"I know I'm getting better because I'm hungry again... like a little kid. I'm starving, and when I eat, it's like the first time I've ever tasted food in my life."
Britney also says that she has left behind a lot of abuse, trauma and now feels a new freedom:
“Even though I loved my home, there was a lot of trauma there… Today I thank Jesus for food. It seems to me like a way to say ‘no,’ to take control of my body, and to show everyone where I really come from.”
And then it ended:
“My soul has never experienced this feeling with food before… It’s ridiculous and a little embarrassing… yes, I’m going to have cookies and cream ice cream. God bless you all.”
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari first met in 2016 on the set of her music video for her song “Slumber Party.” After a lavish wedding in 2022, Sam Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The divorce was finalized in May 2024.
On the other hand, Britney's relationship with her sons seems to be improving. In late 2024, she reunited with her son, Jayden, 18, after a long period of separation.
"She's happy to have her son around. Things are going in the right direction," a source told Page Six.
