Bella Hadid broke the silence about the ongoing war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas. Bella is of Palestinian descent from her father, and her followers and fans have long sought a response from the model, who has always spoken out about the issues and injustices done in Palestine. She, through a long reaction, broke the silence, showing that she was threatened with death, but she is still not afraid.
In the statement published on social networks, Bella apologized for her silence and said that she still has not found the right words for the whole terrible war that is taking innocent lives. She added that the world's attention has turned to a situation that has affected families and taken innocent lives for decades.
"I have a lot to say, but I'll keep it short today. I've been sent hundreds of death threats every day, my phone number has been leaked, and my family has felt threatened. But I won't be silent anymore! Fear is not option. The people and children of Palestine, especially those in Gaza, cannot afford our silence. We are not brave - they are."
Further, it continued:
"My heart bleeds with pain from the traumas that are happening, also from the general traumas of my Palestinian blood. (As) I see the aftermath of the rockets in Gaza, I grieve for all the mothers who have lost their children and the children who cry alone, as they have lost fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, friends who will never see them again in this world. I grieve for the Israeli families who have faced the pain and consequences of October 7."
Bella added:
"Regardless of the country's history, I condemn terrorist attacks on civilians, everywhere. Hurting women, children and causing terror does not serve the Free Palestine movement well. I believe deep in my heart that no child and no one anywhere located, must be snatched from the family neither temporarily nor permanently. This holds for the people of Israel and Palestine alike."
The model said she has a misconception about how the world sees Palestinians.
"It is important to understand the difficulty of being Palestinian, in a world that sees us as terrorists who resist peace. It is harmful, it is shameful, it is categorically untrue."
She also narrated the history of her family:
"My father was born in Nazareth in the year of the Nakba (the expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians in 1948). Nine days after he was born, he, in his mother's arms, along with family members, were expelled from their homes in Palestine, became refugees, away from the land they called "home".
My grandparents never had the chance to return. My family witnessed 75 years of violence against the Palestinian people - mostly, brutal occupations that led to the destruction of communities all, cold-blooded murders and the forced removal of families from their homes," she said, adding that this practice still continues and that the pain is unimaginable.
She called for people to unite to protect humanity. "We must stand united to protect humanity and compassion - and demand that our leaders do the same. All religions are peace - governments are the ones that are corrupt and the combination of the two creates the greatest sin . We are one and God created us the same. For the blood, the tears and the bodies we must mourn with the same respect."
The model pointed out that there is a humanitarian crisis in Gaza that needs to be taken into consideration. "There is an urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza that needs to be addressed. Families need water and food. Hospitals need supplies to keep generators running, to keep the wounded alive."
"Wars have laws - and they must be respected no matter what. We must keep up the pressure on leaders wherever we are, not lose sight of the urgent needs of the people in Gaza and ensure that innocent Palestinian civilians do not become forgotten victims. of this war!"
