The Municipality of Tirana, starting from July 1, will resume the sale of the general season ticket for citizens using public transport, although it was originally planned that the general season ticket would be released in September.
Euronews.al reports that the Municipal Council approved the decision, as during June the Directorate of Transport and Road Traffic managed to complete the process of collecting data for the city transport service.
The decision to remove the general subscriber from circulation for three months created increased dissatisfaction among the citizens, who staged street protests, calling this act harmful.
“The Municipality of Tirana has planned a three-month period for carrying out verifications and measurements for the reorganization and restructuring of the transport service. During this period, the Municipality of Tirana will ask the public transport operators of the city to return to full terms of service, according to the terms of the contract, respecting the technical conditions before the pandemic and providing full service with 100% of the capacity of tools in operation. For this reason, the general public transport subscription will be removed from circulation only for a temporary period of 3 months (June, July, August), in order to adapt the travel structure to the new travel volumes, as well as the decisions that will relate to line itineraries, frequencies, service conditions, during the period of full service.
Due to the acceleration of the process, probably prompted by the protests of the citizens, the general season ticket will be available starting from July 1.
