There's no room for excuses when the laundry basket is full. Of course, the first solution is laundry detergent. But what few people know is that this product can be used for much more than just the washing machine.
According to Lisa Sharp, cleaning expert and founder of Retro Housewife Goes Green, the detergent contains enzymes and ingredients that remove stains and dirt, making it suitable for a variety of cleaning tasks around the home. What's more, by using one product for multiple functions, you save money and avoid endless cleaning product piles.
1. Carpet cleaning
Instead of buying expensive carpet shampoo, you can use a small amount of low-foaming detergent, especially if you are using a carpet cleaning machine. Simply add about a teaspoon of detergent to the machine's bowl and fill it with water. For stains, dilute the detergent, apply it to the stain, rub it with a brush or cloth, and wipe it off with a damp cloth.
2. Cleaning children's toys
Toys often end up on the floor, or worse. Most are made of plastic and can be easily washed with hot water and soap. Simply add 2-3 teaspoons of detergent to a basin of hot water and wash the toys thoroughly. For stains, you can use a microfiber cloth with a little detergent directly on the toy.
3. Vacuum cleaner
If you've run out of powdered cleaner or want to use fewer different products, prepare a solution with a little detergent diluted in water and use it to clean counters, floors, or sanitary facilities. Due to the active ingredients, the detergent removes grease and stains easily. Always test in an inconspicuous corner before full use.
4. Floor broom
Laundry detergent works great for cleaning tiles or vinyl floors. Just pour half a capful of detergent into a bucket of warm water and you're ready to mop. Thanks to its cleaning ingredients, the detergent effortlessly removes dirt and grease.
5. Cleaning outdoor furniture
Patio furniture needs to be cleaned from time to time, especially during busy seasons. Mix a little detergent with water, scrub the tables and chairs, and rinse with clean water. The cleaning effect is immediate, giving the furniture a fresh and well-maintained look.
6. Removing stains from clothes and furniture
Detergent is one of the easiest solutions for stains on clothes or upholstery. Simply apply it directly to the stain, scrub it with a soft brush, and let it sit for 30 minutes before washing as usual. Using a non-toxic detergent is also safer for use on delicate clothes and fabrics.
7. Washing dishes
In an emergency, when you run out of dish soap, you can use laundry detergent to wash them by hand. It is powerful in removing grease, but it must be rinsed well. It is advisable to use unscented types without harsh chemicals for safer and more pleasant results.
