'Alpazar' sketch and shocking truth for Albanian men

'Alpazar' sketch and shocking truth for Albanian men

A girl in short dress approaches the bus stop. At first glance, it will simply wait for its line in peace and ride like so many. But it can't because at the station with him is a bunch of men complimenting them if you call them inaccurate.

So begins an old sketch of 'Alpazar' from November 2015. It's titled "Who's That" and can only be interpreted as the bitter reality under the guise of humor.

The girl does not say a word when harassed by police, tyrants, elbasanlli or Vlora. Everybody awaits his turn, as if he were a spontaneous workhorse of "The Bachelor," and they try their luck with the beauties who see it all. The policeman falls to her feet, the tyrant suspects he is a stranger for not answering, the elbasanlli thinks he is the bride who found his mother, the Vlora calls him "hey" and "uo" as often as they cause morrnica from annoyance.

We don't blame you if you laugh. The audience laughed too. But if you're a woman, it's almost impossible not to think of yourself in the actor's sketch. Imagine if this scene really happened to you. Always, if it hasn't happened to you today. Do you not feel in danger in the presence of all those men who take the initiative to speak to you, to touch you, to approach you so much, not to give up? Do you not fear that the situation will escalate and words and harassment become something more? Aren't you making it clear enough that you are there to wait and not to be objectified in your chest and saddle? What do you need to do to make you comfortable? Gia you were seeing your sobriety. More than that?

It all ends when the girl hints that she was not waiting for the bus but her boyfriend, played by Agron Llakaj. So when it becomes clear that she belongs to someone else, the men lose interest and give up because they respect his ownership of the girl, but not her desire not to talk to anyone. In this situation, respect applies only to your gender.

In Albania, men will always find the right to speak to you, to call you by fruit names, to promise you fiery nights, secure futures and money. The fact that they find this right, they dig it from somewhere, does not mean that they have it. A girl waiting for the bus, a girl wearing a short dress, a pretty girl, a girl with all three of these traits, will just watch her work without feeling threatened by a crowd of two-legged hormones and a mustache think that if they try hard, they can put him to bed.

This sketch, however shallow it may seem, is based on real events, because someone, somewhere, has done these despicable acts, or been the subject of them.
