You've probably seen bags filled with different fruits that people keep in the freezer for a long time. It can be strawberries, bananas, peaches, so any kind of fruit you want and you can keep it in the freezer section in the refrigerator to consume it whenever you want.
So are freeze dried fruits healthy?
"Freezing food is actually a great way to preserve nutrients," says nutritionist Caroline Susie. Of course, it's not the same quality or taste as fresh fruit, but actually even freeze-dried ones are very healthy.
Adding freeze-dried fruit to yogurt, milk or cereal is a great way to add nutritional value to your diet.
What are these freeze-dried fruits?
"As the name suggests, these are fruits that are exposed to very low temperatures, while freeze-drying is actually "one of the best preservation methods to keep the biological material intact," explains nutritionist Therese Gentile. This process preserves most of the food's structure and nutrients with little loss of volume, she adds. Like fresh fruit, they keep at their peak, but they last longer when out of the fridge.
Are Freeze Dried Fruits Healthy?
These fruits have almost all the nutritional benefits of fresh fruit in a crunchy form. But, it's not exactly the same as eating fresh or frozen fruit traditionally. In other words, freeze-dried fruits still contain most of the nutrition found in fresh fruits, and they even have antioxidants and phytonutrients found in almost all fruits.
