Telling the truth is important to any relationship, especially when it comes to romantic relationships. But there is a thin line that separates sincerity from a lack of empathy for the person in front of you.
Psychologist and relationship expert Eva Gutiérrez says: "Telling the truth without filters, without measuring, without taking into account how the person in front of you feels, is not sincerity, and even in many cases, it shows a lack of empathy."
According to her, communication in a relationship matters more than anything and is the basis of building a healthy relationship. "The right form of communication between a couple is the one where everyone asks, listens, answers and negotiates to reach a joint decision", explains the psychologist.
"In an effort to be very honest, some of us forget the emotional responsibility we have towards our partner for every word and the way we address them," she says.
But what to do if you have a very honest partner?
Psychology advises to set limits. According to her, it is very important that communication has bases that separate the wrong from the good in the relationship.
This decision helps in understanding how far the partner's understanding of emotions reaches. In cases where respect for your emotions is not present, perhaps you should ask yourself about the progress of the relationship.
