In the latest episode of “The Dalina Show” , Dalina went to the farm of clinical dietitian Blerina Bombaj. A different kind of meeting, in nature, among animals, fresh vegetables and a table filled with food prepared from products grown on the farm. This episode is part of the special series of the show, where Dalina invites experts from different fields to address issues with great impact on our daily lives.
Food today is more poison than health
The discussion immediately began with brutal honesty. Blerina Bombaj raised the alarm about the massive consumption of processed and packaged foods.
"We need to give up processed foods. When I go to the supermarket myself and see the carts full of sugary drinks, I find it unbelievable. Fruit juices? They're sugar water and chemicals," she said.
According to Bombaj, these foods are a source of three things: sugar, salt, and processed fat.
"These products have stripped everything valuable from foods: plant fiber, minerals, vitamins. They only give the body empty calories that cause a major imbalance in the body."
"You are overfed, but actually underfed"
Dietitians emphasized that one of the biggest problems is that industrial foods disrupt signals between the stomach and the brain.
"These food combinations don't send the message to your brain that you're full; instead, they increase your appetite. The human body is programmed to seek out food with effort, not to have it in abundance. And our genes haven't had time to adapt to this new food reality."
The invisible danger: vitamin D deficiency
At a particular moment in the conversation, Blerina also mentioned a shocking study:
"From water, a study has found that even a plastic spoon can be found in the brain." This served as another wake-up call for awareness about pollution and food contamination.
She also touched on the severe lack of vitamin D, a problem she often encounters in her clinic:
"In 100 people I advise to take the tests, only one comes out without deficiency. This shows that contact with the sun and nature has been lost. It is worrying when patients with serious diagnoses, such as tumors, all come out with a deficiency of this vital vitamin."
Supplements, a necessary help, but with caution
Regarding nutritional supplements, Blerina said that she uses them herself and recommends them, but only when they are certified by reliable third parties.
"There are endless choices on the market, but quality is essential. There are products that are contaminated with heavy metals, especially protein shakes , so caution is paramount."
Dietetics is not a course, it's a science
At the core of the interview, Blerina asked that dietetics be treated as what it really is, a branch of preventive medicine, and not simply a food fad.
"Nutrition is professional consulting. It's not just a diet to lose weight."
The four pillars of health according to Blerina Bombaj
At the end of the conversation, she shared the four basic elements that guarantee well-being:
Don't eat more than you need. A simple measure is the ratio of your waist circumference to your height – it should be less than 1.
Quality sleep - the most important element for regeneration and body function.
Stress management . “If you are under constant stress, you bombard your cells with poison, metaphorically but really.”
Regular physical activity keeps the body and mind in shape.
