November 22, the day of the alphabet of the Albanian language will be an official holiday! The decision comes after the proposal that was made in the Parliament of Albania.
The foreign minister, Igli Hasani, announced that November 22 has a special symbolism and is related to the greatest unifying moment of Albanians. November 22, 1908 also marks the establishment of the Albanian alphabet with 36 letters, according to the principle "one letter - one phoneme". It is based on the Latin alphabet, with some changes to adapt the Albanian language and was approved at the Congress of Bitola, where 50 delegates from 26 cities and different associations participated.
In November 2023, at the Diaspora Summit, Edi Rama proposed that Alphabet Day be a national holiday.
