Princess Diana had a unique way of balancing simplicity with luxury. At first glance, every detail of her look seemed random, but it was always carefully thought out. As her personal makeup artist, Mary Greenwell, has confessed, Diana always wore perfume, it was an inseparable part of her daily life.
Some of the scents she used have been discovered by people who knew her closely, while others have become part of many theories. But one thing is certain: her perfumes were not just scents, but part of her irreplaceable identity.
1. 24 Faubourg – Hermès
This perfume from the French house Hermès is one of the few confirmed favorites of Diana. Her personal assistant, Paul Burrell, mentions it in his book as a frequent choice of hers.
Launched in 1995, 24 Faubourg is a floral perfume with a rich blend of aromas: hyacinth, orange, ylang-ylang and bergamot; followed by jasmine, gardenia, orange blossom and iris; and with a warm base of amber, patchouli, woods and vanilla.
Why did it suit Diana?
Because it is a light, feminine fragrance, yet sophisticated, elegant and timeless.
2. Bluebell – Penhaligon’s
Another scent often associated with Diana is Bluebell from the British house Penhaligon's. Although it has not been officially confirmed, this perfume has often been mentioned by sources close to her as a personal choice.
Bluebell is a clean, floral and nature-forward fragrance. It opens with soft citrus notes, followed by hyacinth, lily of the valley, cyclamen, rose and jasmine, while its base is light, with galbanum, cloves and cinnamon.
What makes it special?
It has a calm and nostalgic freshness, like the scent of a spring garden in the morning. It evokes innocence, childhood memories, and a nostalgic feeling.
Diana chose scents that lingered in the mind. They were scents that spoke silently, just like her presence. And that's what makes a perfume unforgettable.
