18-year-old Albanian escapes expulsion from England thanks to excellent grades
A brilliant student won the appeal and stay in the UK after a petition opposing his expulsion gathered more than 90,000 signatures.
Steven Bregu immigrated from Albania to the United Kingdom alone when he was only 13 to escape the abusive family.
Because he did not speak English, he was placed under the care of the state and has since achieved outstanding results in school.
After his asylum application was rejected, he appealed.
Steven's school principal, Rob Shaw, told the Brisol Post: "Steven learned of the applet result and was pleased to announce that he had obtained the right to reside in the United Kingdom."
"This decision can be appealed again by the authorities, but if that does not happen, Steven can start the practice immediately."
The teenager passed the A-Levels exams in biology, chemistry and math and secured a management internship thanks to the talent born in mathematics.
Foster teacher Elisabeth Gilpin described her as "an excellent student and a community asset."
He caught the eye of Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees when he was accepted into the program for gifted, talented students.
?Steven is a determined, smart and loving guy. Bristol is lucky to have it, ?the mayor said. "I hope this case serves to reform the asylum system in the country so that no one experiences the trauma Steven experienced.
The 18-year-old said: "I'm very grateful and happy to be here. Bristol is a fantastic place and the community has been so good to me. Bristol is my home. School and teachers have always supported me. ?
