If you shop online for clothes often, you've probably experienced the classic disappointment: what you order doesn't look at all like the picture. The same goes for colors—especially... red. Yes, a recent study from marketing platform Yotpo shows that red clothes are the ones that get returned the most often.
Why does it turn red so much?

According to personal stylist Jordan Stolch, it's all about technology.
“Red is very difficult to capture properly on camera and to present realistically online,” she explains.
What happens? The color comes out either too bright, or too pale, or like it's orange or pink. Then you throw in artificial lights, filters, and voila – you order one thing, you get something completely different.
So why do we insist on red, then?

Because it's red! It's the color of courage, attraction, events, photos, special outings – and that's why expectations are so high. But the reality is not always as beautiful as it can be on our Instagram profile.

Stylist Jordan explains that red is a very eye-catching color, and this is closely related to an individual's self-confidence.
"If it's not the exact shade they imagined, people are much more likely to return it, compared to a beige or gray garment," she says.
The secret is in: nuance!

Many people don't know what kind of red suits them. There are reds with cool, warm, and neutral undertones – and the wrong choice can bring out more redness or pinkness in the face, which no one wants.
How to choose the right red when shopping online?

Here are some useful tips, especially if you are not going to make any returns:
Check the return policy – ??If it's too complicated, it's probably not worth the risk.
Read the reviews and see real photos – They show how the color looks in natural light, on different skin tones and bodies.
Look on sites like Poshmark or eBay – You can find the same clothes posted by real people, without filters and drama.
If it doesn't fit you – return it. It's not worth keeping it in the closet for a "maybe" that never comes.
Shopping wisely is knowing when something doesn't suit you and having the courage not to wear it. Red is iconic – but only when it's the right shade for you.
