Generation Z is one of the generations that has changed many aspects, broken cycles and in fact, made it a bit challenging to 'face' different generations. Of course, it has also encountered many important global issues and events (Covid-19), new systems in work and career. However, there is one thing that this generation does very well: Address anxiety, mental health problems and avoid "difficult" conversations about salary negotiations.
According to a new study, Generation Z is more stressed when negotiating salary than when ending a relationship. So, having a conversation in front of your partner is easier than having a conversation in front of HR.
The study, conducted by Talker Research, in collaboration with banking app Chime, included 2,000 graduates of the 2024-2025 period. Participants were presented with several scenarios and asked to rate which one would be most stressful.
The results showed that:
- 54% of young people said that negotiating salary was more stressful than separating from a partner
- 39% thought the opposite
Also:
-71% of participants were worried about their next steps after graduation
-Only 42% felt very confident about their plans
-Of those who had completed their studies a year earlier, 66% reported that their plan had gone according to expectations
When asked about other adult life tasks:
-52% thought that tax-related things were more complicated than assembling IKEA furniture.
-35% had created and followed a budget.
-Only 26% had written a check .
-Only 22% had balanced a bank account.
Another study from Grand Canyon University states:
-37.1% of graduates perceive postgraduate life as more difficult than the academic workload
-56.2% consider adult life emotionally challenging (compared to 44.4% who considered university as such)
In short, write the salary directly in the job advertisement to avoid a lot of stress.
