Prominent Albanian director Piro Milkani passes away at the age of 86

Renowned Albanian director Piro Milkani has passed away at the age of 86.

The sad news was announced by his son, Eno Milkani, via social media:

"My father, friend and colleague is gone!"

Piro Milkani was one of the most prominent figures in Albanian cinematography, leaving behind an extraordinary activity and contribution to our country.

The late Piro Milkani donated to Albanian cinematography a series of films that have received numerous awards and remain public favorites over the years.

Some of them are: Victory over Death (1967), When a Day Dawned (1971), Paths of War (1974), The Militant (1984), Spring Did Not Come Alone (1988), The Lady from the City (1976), Face to Face (1979), The Sadness of Mrs. Shnajder (2006).

Prominent Albanian director Piro Milkani passes away at the age of 86

Piro Milkani was born in Korça on December 9, 1939. After finishing high school in his hometown, he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where he graduated as a cinematographer. During his studies, he made his graduation film, Ingratitude, which marked the beginning of a successful career in cinematography.

After returning to Albania, Milkani began working at the “Shqipëria e Re” Film Studio as a cameraman and later as a director. He has made over 20 feature films.  

For his extraordinary contribution to Albanian cinematography, Milkani has been honored with numerous titles and awards, including the title of "People's Artist" (1987) and the "Ambassador of Albanian Film" medal from the Albanian Ministry of Culture.
