Matilda – Emigration as a lesson in strength and limiting expectations
Matilda, an Albanian woman living abroad, shared her experience of emigration. She emphasized that emigration has taught her to be strong, but it has also helped her understand that not all those who are close to her appreciate her sacrifices. She emphasized that helping should not become an obligation and that she cannot give everything from herself. For Matilda, emigration is not an asset, but a daily struggle, where hopes for the realization of dreams are great, but disappointments often occur. She emphasized that some people in Albania see emigrants as "ATMs" and that this is a great pain for her. The most painful thing, according to her, was when, from third parties, she heard that her family had said: "Why are you having a second child when we need money? We educated her."

Aneta, an immigrant living in Germany, shared her story about her family’s expectations for financial support. She said that her parents did not expect her to contribute financially, but that they would only be disappointed if within a few years she did not succeed on her own, save enough money, open a business and build a house in Albania. Aneta stressed that she feels personal pressure from her parents’ expectations and that she has tried to set boundaries, but her mother finds it difficult to understand this.
Diamira – The great responsibility as the eldest child
Diamira, an immigrant living in Greece, shared her story about the responsibility she feels as the eldest child. She said she has helped her family financially, but feels a sense of guilt and a lack that cannot be filled.
