Miley Cyrus has finally decided to speak out publicly after the many rumors swirling about her relationship with her parents. The singer, 31, posted a public statement on Instagram on Saturday, May 10, addressing false allegations about her mother, Tish Cyrus, while also giving an update on her relationship with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
"I rarely comment on rumors, but my mom and I are too close to let anything separate us," Miley began her statement. "She's my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn't know how to use her phone well, and somehow, she unfollowed me — (so) simple, random, and insignificant," she said, referring to the fact that her mother had unfollowed her.
Although Tish, 57, said she had "no idea how it happened" and that the problem had been "fixed," the rumors still didn't stop. On the same day that the incident occurred, Miley's father, Billy Ray, 63, posted an old video of the singer and then a selfie. Since her relationship with her father has always been the subject of rumors and speculation, Miley also spoke about it, admitting that "they've had their challenges over the years."
“My father and I have had our challenges over the years. Now that I am in my thirties, family is my priority. I am at peace with the fact that bridges have been built and time has healed many things. I am grateful for the health and love that flows through my family.”
Miley has previously spoken about the relationship in an interview with David Letterman. She spoke on "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction" about the influence her father had on her career, and said she inherited "narcissism" from him.
