"I'm starting to hate my brother.

I am 28 years old and for the past two years I have been shouldering the entire burden of my 23-year-old brother, ever since we lost our mother. Our parents have been separated for a long time and he has been living with his mother for at least a decade. I had moved out earlier, but I still helped my mother financially.

When she passed away two years ago, I did my best to be there for her. She told me she didn't want to be alone, so I got her a room in the same building I lived in. But she didn't like it at all and had a huge fight with the management – ??so bad that I had to move out of the apartment myself.

However, I found him another house and helped him settle down again. This whole story has become a vicious cycle for two years in a row. He has changed apartments over three times and each time is accompanied by great drama.

In addition, he has become very aggressive and offensive whenever things don't go his way. He demands that others pay for everything, he won't work, he won't even continue school, and honestly – I don't know what motivates him in life.

I have offered to help him finish his education, as long as he agrees to stay in a dormitory and work part-time, at least to support himself. He refuses. Even when I have suggested professional help – he refuses. I sense that he may be experiencing depression, but he refuses to see this as an option.

Whatever the reason, I'm exhausted. I'm tired of the dirty words he says, especially when they're directed at his sister. That's not how you talk to someone who's always been there for you.

Part of me wants to cut off all contact and focus on my life. Another part tells me he needs help. But… can you really save everyone?
