The closure of the social platform, TikTok, by the Albanian government is being made official. The Electronic and Postal Communications Authority has made an official request to block access to TikTok, based on the order of the National Cyber ??Security Authority.
The blocking of access is required to be done by March 13 of this year, while the decision was communicated via e-mail to all entities that provide internet services.
"You must all submit written confirmation of the closure of access and domains of the social platform by March 13, 2025."
The government has recommended closing or restricting the TikTok platform for 12 months. The news was announced a few days ago by the Minister of Education, Ogerta Manastirliu, who emphasized that this decision was made after continuous consultations with parents.
According to Manastirliu, TikTok is a social network that negatively affects children, inciting violence. As a result, the minister said that "it will take a few days or 1 week to temporarily suspend access to TikTok."
"We have conducted extensive consultations with parents about the safety of children in the digital environment and the effects that social media platforms have on the psycho-emotional state of children. They have been in favor of closing or restricting TikTok," said Manastirliu.
According to the minister, 65,000 parents were interviewed in 1,300 meetings as part of the consultations.
