News in a few minutes: What's happening in the world

The situation continues to be chaotic in Santorini after the strong seismic movements that the island experienced.

Thousands of residents and seasonal workers have fled the Cycladic Islands after earthquakes of up to magnitude 5 were recorded in the volcanic region since Friday. Ferry and flight operators have increased services to cope with the evacuations.

Meanwhile, more Greek islands closed schools on Tuesday. Santorini earlier canceled public events, restricted travel to the island and halted construction work in certain areas. The quakes caused damage to some old buildings, but no injuries were reported.

Trump proposes relocation of Palestinians

News in a few minutes: What's happening in the world

US President Donald Trump proposed the permanent relocation of Palestinians from war-torn Gaza to neighboring countries, calling the enclave a "place of destruction" on Tuesday as he held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump repeated his call to Jordan, Egypt and other Arab states, saying the Palestinians had no alternative but to abandon the coastal strip, which must be rebuilt after nearly 16 months of a devastating war between Israel and Hamas militants.

But this time Trump said he would support the relocation of Palestinians "forever," going beyond his previous suggestions that Arab leaders had already firmly opposed.

School shooting leaves 10 dead in Sweden

News in a few minutes: What's happening in the world

At least ten people have been killed in a shooting at a school in the central Swedish city of Örebro on Tuesday, according to authorities.

Swedish police said they believe the suspect - a man - is among the dead. They said the perpetrator acted alone, but added that the investigation was still in the early stages.

There is currently no thought to be a terrorist motive behind the attack.

"We are working with the secret services, but it is a person unknown to the police," said the local police chief.

The school, called Risbergska, has students over the age of 20, offering primary and secondary school courses, Swedish language courses for immigrants, vocational training and programs for people with intellectual disabilities.

Ursula von der Leyen: "We are ready to negotiate with the US"

News in a few minutes: What's happening in the world

The European Union is ready to engage in "tough negotiations" with Donald Trump to prevent a trade war between the two sides of the Atlantic, Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday, a day after recent deals that Canada and Mexico reached with the White House to temporarily avoid imposing 25% tariffs.

Trump warned on Sunday that tariffs against the bloc "will definitely happen" and will come into effect very soon, alarming officials and diplomats in Brussels.

"We will be ready for tough negotiations when necessary and to find solutions when possible, to address any grievances and lay the foundations for a stronger partnership. We will be open and pragmatic to achieve this," the European Commission president said at the annual meeting of EU Envoys in Brussels.

The deals with Canada and Mexico, announced shortly after separate phone calls between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Speaker Claudia Sheinbaum with Trump, suggest that Republicans see tariffs as a foreign policy tool to extract concessions from other nations, including close allies, rather than to restructure trade relations, as Trump had claimed during the campaign.
