There are countless tourist spots scattered throughout the United States of America that attract new visitors every year. Some are considered the best tourist spots in the country, but when travelers get there, they are sorely disappointed.
Instead of wasting time and money going to such places, it might be better to skip them altogether. Read below to learn which places experienced tourists say travelers should avoid.
#1. The Hollywood Sign

Hollywood is the movie-making capital of the world, so it's only natural that tourists would want to see the iconic sign in person. While it may seem tempting to get as close as possible, it's actually illegal to touch it. The closest visitors can get is via designated hiking trails that lead up and over the sign.
Similar to many tourist destinations, it's just something to see from afar for photo opportunities. Those who find themselves in Los Angeles and want to make the most of the city should probably check out the world-famous museums, restaurants, and clothing stores.
#2. Times Square

Almost all guidebooks recommend that people visiting New York for the first time go to Times Square. It's a quaint area in the middle of Manhattan and features streets lined with countless restaurants and shops, people dressed in unusual costumes, and dazzling advertisements that are lit up at all times.
This can be very overwhelming and is one of the reasons to avoid Times Square. It is considered to be one of the most popular tourist spots in the world, so there will certainly be large crowds. Also, the shops and restaurants there can be found in most American cities.
#3. Venetian Gondolas in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nevada, has many tourist traps, and the Venetian gondolas are included on this list. They are modeled after the famous gondola rides in Italy, but unfortunately, they are a far cry from the Italian experience.
Those who have taken it have described it as a cruise through the chlorinated blue waters of the pools, lasting less than 15 minutes. Although the trip is short, the cost is not cheap, with a private trip for two costing $116.
#4. The Four Corners Monument

The reason the lady in the picture is lying on the ground is because she is in four states at once. The Four Corners Monument connects Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico where they border each other. It is the only area in the United States where at least four states come together.
The reality of the Four Corners Monument is that it's in the middle of nowhere, so all you have to do is take pictures and stand around without cell phone service or wi-fi. Also, the monument's lines are reportedly inaccurate with the actual boundaries, which takes away from all the excitement.
#5. Philadelphia's Liberty Bell

Anyone familiar with American history would know that the Liberty Bell is a symbol of freedom and it became famous when it was rung after the reading of the United States Declaration of Independence. The bell dates back to 1752 and has a signature in the middle that was formed in the early 19th century.
Tourists who want to visit it can find it at the Liberty Bell Center in Pennsylvania. Fans of American colonial history may get a thrill from the ride, but for some, it's simply a place where they can observe and photograph an old, boring piece of metal.
#6. Hollywood Walk of Fame

In a recent survey, the Hollywood Walk of Fame was ranked as the most overrated tourist attraction in America. The walk is so bad that it even has negative reviews. Why? Because of the crowds, pickpockets, and the fact that you lose the thrill within two minutes.
#7. Statue of Liberty

This is not to say that one should avoid visiting the Statue of Liberty during a trip to New York City. From a distance, it is a magnificent sight to behold, but that is only from a distance.
