To all Netflix subscribers: get ready, because your monthly price is about to increase.
The streaming giant recently announced that its standard ad-free plan will increase from $15.49 to $17.99 per month. The cheapest plan, which includes ads, will go from $6.99 to $7.99. Meanwhile, the Premium plan will cost $24.99, up from $22.99 before. Netflix also announced that there will be price increases in Canada, Portugal, and Argentina.
The increases come after the company reported strong financial results for the fourth quarter, beating expectations for revenue and profit. Netflix reached over 300 million paid subscribers and added a record 19 million new subscribers.
During a call with investors, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said,
"When you raise prices, you have to make sure you have the content and the engagement to support that decision," citing series and films that will be released in 2025.
User reactions: “Enough!”
But not everyone is happy. Netflix subscribers took to social media to express their disappointment over the decision.
"19 million new subscribers and it's time to raise prices?" wrote one commenter on Netflix's Instagram.
“I’ve been with Netflix since the beginning,” said another. “Another increase and I’m done. The price of everything is too high and Netflix is ??no exception.”
Many similar comments appeared under Netflix's recent post, where it promoted January 2025 premieres. Meanwhile, Netflix has not yet provided any official response to the concerns raised by users.
