Brooke Shields will no longer be in the shadows when it comes to women's health.

The "Suddenly Susan" actress revealed in her new memoir that she underwent labia reduction surgery in her 40s after spending years struggling with discomfort, scratching and bleeding. However, during a post-op check-up with her surgeon, she said she learned he also performed a vaginal rejuvenation procedure while she was in surgery without her consent.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't ashamed to share this very intimate information," she wrote in "Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old," for Us Weekly. "But if we want to change the way we approach and talk about women's health, then we need to highlight the uncomfortable but very real issues."

According to Brooke, her doctor seemed proud of his choice, even though she didn't want the irreversible procedure.

"He informed me he performed something bonus on the operation," Brooke confessed. "It felt like an invasion — such a weird, kind of rape," she concluded.
