Dangerous "Superman" challenge on TikTok: School warns parents about

A school in North Wales has warned parents about a new TikTok trend, known as 'Superman', which has resulted in some serious injuries to those who have tried it. In a letter sent to parents and guardians, Rhyl High School has asked for cooperation in warning children about the dangers of this challenge.

"Over the last week it has become clear that a trend has taken off, where pupils are mimicking an act known as 'Superman'," the first letter from the school read, North Wales Live reported.

This challenge, which involves a line of people linking hands and then a participant jumping onto their arms to be lifted into the air, has been rated as "extremely dangerous". "If someone moves or fails to catch the running person, there can be serious consequences," the letter said.

School staff have tried to intervene when students have been caught trying the challenge, and have planned to give speeches during assemblies to highlight the dangers and potential consequences. The school has also warned that there will be penalties if the actions continue.

The letter concluded:

"We want to inform you about this, as students have been seen doing it outside the school when they leave. This seems to be a trend that is spreading widely. We would greatly appreciate your help in getting these warnings across at home as well.”

This phenomenon has also been reported in other countries, where young people have suffered fractures as a result of the challenge.

In response to the situation, TikTok has taken action by adding a warning message to searches for “Superman” or “Superman dance,” which reads: “This phrase may be associated with behavior or content that violates our guidelines. Promoting a safe and positive experience is our top priority.”
