Pantone just announced the color of the year 2025, and contrary to expectations, it's not a bright or bold hue. The color that will dominate next year is… the color brown!
Officially known as "PANTONE 17-1230" or "mocha mousse", this color is a soft shade with light and warm undertones. Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, describes this color as "a calm and warm brown that evokes feelings of comfort and caress for the senses."
The "mocha mousse" color is inspired by a new trend called the "culture of small pleasures", which is about everyday pleasures like a coffee bought on the street or a moment of relaxation during the day. "Find your mocha moment," says Pressman, linking this color to the desire for small pleasures that improve our mood.
Beyond the association with chocolate, Pressman and Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, explain that this color symbolizes harmony and warmth.
In 2023 and 2024, Pantone chose the colors magenta and peach, reflecting the desire for joy and celebration after extended pandemic lockdowns. Now, as the world has passed the difficult period of COVID, the color "mocha mousse" reflects the need for a quieter and quieter joy, setting the tone for life with delicacy and simplicity.
