On the one-year anniversary of Matthew Perry's death, his family has commemorated the late actor's life for the first time since the tragedy.

In an exclusive interview, the "Friends" star's mother, Suzanne Morrison, her husband Keith Morrison and his younger sisters, Caitlin, Madeline and Emily, spoke about their lifelong love for Perry.

"I have more freedom in my relationship with him now than before. And then it hits me, it hits me so hard that he's not there," his mother said.

"We go to the cemetery," Perry's father recounted, "and Suzanne sits there and talks to him for a few moments."

Further, his sister, Emily, states:

"Really, all he wanted was to love and be loved. He fought so hard to feel peace, and I think he got to a place where he's feeling peace."

"He was always very lonely at heart," his mom recalls. "I'm a very lucky woman, but he had a problem; he had a defect. I couldn't handle it. I couldn't help it."

This, for Suzzane, was a lesson she learned the hard way. She broke down in tears as she opened up about the guilt their family felt over the loss of Matthew, stressing afterwards that she now knows "they have to stop blaming themselves because it's devastating".

Matthew Perry died at the age of 54 on October 28, 2023 after an accidental drug overdose. The actor had spoken openly about his struggle with his addiction to different substances.
