
At work, we constantly have to make decisions, but what happens when it becomes difficult and just plain stressful?
From the moment we wake up in the morning until we fall asleep, we constantly have to make decisions. Whether it's what to wear to the office or where to get your morning coffee, we are constantly faced with choices. In fact, according to Psychology Today, humans make up to 35,000 decisions a day. Charlotte Davies, a career expert at LinkedIn, says there are three simple strategies that if you implement on a daily basis, you will find it easier to make decisions.
#1 Recognize when you are busy
As Davies says, decision fatigue can become a stressful condition. So it's important to recognize when you're feeling overwhelmed so you can start treating it as a situation. "An obvious sign of decision fatigue is that feeling of overwhelm that gets worse as the day goes on," says Jessica Breër, career coach. "When you start the day you might feel super productive, but as the hours go by, you realize you're avoiding responding to emails and texts. Your work starts to take longer, or you notice that some of the decisions you make later in the day are impulsive and less thought out. These are all signs that require your attention.”
#2 Manage your time as best you can
When you manage your time well, decisions should be easier to make. Ineffective time management practices can lead to hasty decisions, increasing stress and reducing the quality of decision making.
#3 Make similar decisions together
Another way to prevent impulsive decisions is precisely to group them into categories. "Group similar tasks and decisions together to reduce the amount of time and effort you have to spend thinking about them," suggests Davies.
