Do summer days cause feelings of regret? If sunny days and the summer season give you feelings of anxiety and worry, then you may be experiencing the seasonal phenomenon otherwise known as "sun guilt."
Alycia Burant, founder of Healthy Minds Therapy says, "There is often an external societal pressure to be outside and engage in outdoor activities, which can sometimes conflict with your choice of indoor activities. at home or work."
What is this phenomenon?
"Sun guilt is the feeling of guilt, anxiety, or sadness that occurs when you stay inside on a sunny day, often because of work or other commitments," explains therapist Sandra Kushnir. This guilt stems from a perceived obligation to be outside and enjoy the good weather, leading to a sense of not enjoying the day.
Why do we experience "sun guilt?"
According to Kushnir, we experience "sun guilt" because of social and cultural pressure to associate sunny weather with outdoor activities.
"There is a pressure to seize the opportunity to be outside, this combined with the fear of missing out on a beautiful day, which can lead to feelings of guilt and anxiety when we are unable to live up to these expectations." This internal conflict between our values ??and actions can contribute to feelings of guilt and self-criticism.
How to get rid of this feeling?
Just challenge the unhelpful thoughts. Give priority to the most useful things, the family and not subject to external pressures and weather conditions and you will surely feel better.
