Having a glass of water by your bed may seem helpful, but it's actually not good for your health. According to Healthline, leaving water uncovered can lead to serious problems. Germs and bacteria from the air can easily get into your glass. But that's not all! bugs and dust can also end up there, making the water nearly undrinkable.
Additionally, stagnant water at room temperature creates a hospitable environment for certain types of bacteria. An uncovered glass of water can absorb odors from the room, changing its taste. Whether it's cleaning products, perfumes, or even body odor, they all have a way of finding their way into your glass.
It's not just about germs! A glass of water by your bed can cause problems for your electronics. Think about it: the phone or laptop is usually kept on the nightstand near the bed. A little carelessness on the glass, leading to water spilling on the equipment and damaging it.
Spilled water can simultaneously destroy books, personal items and create quite a mess. Plus, in hot, humid conditions, standing water attracts mosquitoes. They breed in water, increasing the chances of bites and general annoyance.
Interestingly, some cultures even believe that stagnant water can attract negative energy or spirits. While this has not been scientifically proven, you have enough reasons as above not to keep the water in there.
If you like to drink water at night, keep in mind:
-Keep water bottles closed: Use a water bottle with a secure cap to keep water clean and fresh
-Cover the glass : A glass with a cover can help reduce dust and contaminants
- It is more hygienic to keep the glasses upside down and use them every time you drink water
