For sure, many people may have experienced a similar situation with problems sleeping, staying asleep or staying awake at night, otherwise known as insomnia. In addition, it can be a sleep walking, talking and problems during sleep.
But what is sexsomnia? Experts say that it is part of a family of sleep disorders, just like an alarm that goes off in the central nervous system and keeps you awake and involuntarily gives signals for sexual intercourse, dirty language in bed with your partner, etc.
Carlos Schenck, a professor and psychiatrist at the Hennepin County Medical Center at the University of Minnesota, says it's difficult to study sexsomnia because unless people hurt themselves, many have no idea about their unconscious sexual activity until one of the partners in the bed to tell them about it.
A study from a few years ago asked about a thousand randomly selected adults in Norway and found that about 7% had experienced sexsomnia at least once in their lifetime, while nearly 3% were currently living with the condition.
There are plenty of episodes where twice a month women moan sexually, talk with dirty vocabulary, words they don't use when they are awake and aware. "The sleeping brain is very different from the awake brain," the professor said. "You are not conscious when you are asleep, so you cannot draw any valid conclusions about the so-called lie or truth in sleep."
The situation becomes more disturbing when the partner does not admit that they did this or that thing during sexsomnia because they do not remember anything.
