Being in Italy and not trying the best ice creams and the most delicious pizzas in Europe is a sin, right? But perhaps following a recent proposal by the Milan government, you can limit your drinking or tasting to set times due to a bill that is expected to come into effect next month.

So a new law is being proposed in Milan to ban the sale of ice cream and pizza after midnight, as an attempt to protect the peace of residents. For many people, a late-night ice cream is a ritual of Italian culture, but also of groups of tourists who want to taste one of the most popular Italian specialties.

A document has been filed by the city's local government and if approved it could ban ice cream and pizza starting next month.

Covering around 12 districts, the proposal will ban pizza, ice cream and drinks after midnight in an attempt to control the rowdy groups of people who roam the streets of Milan at any time of the year, which seems to cause concern among locals keeping them awake until the wee hours of the morning.

"The goal is to seek a balance between entertainment, peace and tranquility of the residents," said Marco Granelli, vice mayor of Milan. The proposal will come into effect from the middle of next month and will last until November.

The estimated opening hours start at 12.30pm on weekdays and 1.30am on weekends and public holidays, also removing tables outside bars and restaurants as a way to clear the streets of rowdy customers.

Citizens have until the beginning of May to appeal and suggest changes if they do not like this bill.
