There are many myths surrounding the use of microwaves, ranging from the idea that it causes cancer to other health hazards. But are they true?
Let us first emphasize that the microwave is a device that facilitates a lot of work in the kitchen by heating food quickly. Nutritionist Simona Santini revealed to Vogue the answer to this question, clarifying that the microwave does not harm health.
She explains that the device has enough energy to set the atoms within a molecule in motion, but not enough to move the electrons out of the bond. It is also noted that there are no studies or evidence to support theories about food DNA mutations from this exposure.
That being said, the microwave can be used for heating food and does this role best, but it should not be used for canned food that is only heated with it, as it is not hot enough to kill bacteria. Put simply, the problem with microwaved food is not the device itself, but the quality of the food being heated.
