6 different questions about washing coats: Here's how the expert answers

We're officially in the winter season, with chilly temperatures and oversized, warm clothing being the style buzzword for chicks. Better to say, long coats, which guarantee not only comfort, but also warmth.

And if you have already added one to your wardrobe and want to know how to take care of it, how often to wash it, which are the right detergents, dry cleaning or washing machine, expert Kyle Grant, manager of a dry cleaning, shows the tricks that will help you for the proper washing of coats.

Six answers to six different questions about this topic:

#1 How often should I wash my coat? It depends on the material, color and fiber content. If it is a coat that you wear occasionally during the winter, then you can wash it at the end of the season before the start of spring.

#2 If washing depends on material, color and fiber content, what should I know? Wool is often seen as a self-cleaning fiber. Some types of wool can last a long time without needing to be washed, while cashmere or wool mixed with silk are more fragile and need more frequent washing to maintain the softness of the materials.

#3 If I wear my coat every day, should I wash it more often? Unless something happens to your coat, like spilled coffee or food, you can wash it at the end of the winter season.

#4 Can I wash the coat in the washing machine at home? In general, most coats and jackets should be professionally cleaned if you don't want "accidents". There may be synthetic materials or elements such as feathers that if not dry-cleaned with the right machines and detergents, you can put them out of order.

#5 How can I store my winter clothes? One of the best ways to be sustainable with winter clothes is to wash them as little as possible! For example, sweaters and blouses should be washed after every two to three wears for materials such as cotton, silk, cashmere.

#6 Are cashmere clothes only washed in the washing machine at home? Turn your clothes inside out to keep them soft, and a good way is to wash them by hand.
