Each year, Oxford University Press (OUP) – the university press of the University of Oxford, the largest university press in the world – selects a word or expression that has reflected the past 12 months and has the potential to have lasting cultural significance.
OUP has chosen the word "rizz" as the Word of the Year 2023.
Rizz , a word widely used on the Internet, is defined as style, charm, or attractiveness, or one's ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner.
The word is believed to be a shortened form of the word charisma. The OUP said it is likely that more words derived from social media and the internet will be used in everyday language over time.
A few days ago, Merriam-Webster – a book company known for its dictionaries – chose the word authentic as its word of the year.
