Today, it's hard to imagine that Blue Ivy Carter could have had a name other than the one she's been known by since the first day her famous parents, Jay Z and Beyonce, made the news of her birth public.
In an interview with the well-known journalist Gayle King for the CBS Mornings show, the rapper said that the name of his eldest daughter was supposed to be Brooklyn. "This last choice as a tribute to my country of origin," he continued. But, during Beyonce's pregnancy, the couple called the baby by a completely different name than the Brooklyn they wanted or the Blue Ivy Carter she has now.
"We used to call the girl Blueberry, which was more like a nickname. Hey, Blueberry, we used to say hi to her when she was in Beyonce's belly! It was natural for us, but a little later we dropped berry altogether and called her Blue,” he adds.
During the interview, the rapper talked about the special relationship he has with his daughter, who often takes advice from her father on the style of clothing, even on the sneakers she chooses. Blue Ivy's last appearance was during Beyonce's tour, where she performed a dance number alongside a troupe of professional dancers.
"We told him that if you're going to go on stage you have to go work with the dancers. She worked for days and hours and managed to shine. "Blue, since she was born, has been in the public eye and it makes her a little nervous, but we knew she wanted to get on stage and we supported her," Jay Z said.
In addition to Blue, Jay Z and Beyonce are also parents of twins Rumi and Sir.
