"The Diary of Anne Frank" brings the confessions of a Jewish girl, who is forced to live in a hidden corner of a house, together with her family. Her life and feelings were written in a diary, which witnessed the merciless genocide of the Nazis against the Jewish people. Anne was captured, sent to concentration camps, where she died and her diary was published by her father, Otto Frank.
Her harrowing story has come back to the attention of people on TikTok because a girl named Plestia Alaqad, a journalist who lives in Gaza, is documenting her life during the war between Hamas and Israel on social media.
People on TikTok immediately paralleled her story with that of the Jewish girl, Anne Frank, showing that already, history is repeating itself.
The reasons why the two girls are being compared are:
- Plestia has started to write a diary, where she describes life in Gaza, the attacks and everything that is happening in her country, just like Anne Frank.
- Anne Frank died in concentration camps due to diseases spread by the torture and inhumane conditions faced by Jews during the Holocaust, and TikTok users say that because Gaza is experiencing a deep humanitarian crisis, it could happen the same, as a result of the dead bodies pouring everywhere.
- The experiences of both girls are heartbreaking, filled with pain. On one of the pages of her diary, Plestia asks the question: "Is this my last day?"
