Gigi Hadid condemned the "terrorizing of innocent people" after the Hamas-Israel attacks. The half-Palestinian supermodel took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the "inexcusable tragedy" that began on Saturday after the Palestinian Authority launched a surprise air, sea and land attack on Israeli towns near the Gaza Strip.
Gigi told followers that her "thoughts", "condolences", "love and strength" are with "all those affected by the conflict, especially the innocent - many of whom are children.
Hadid explained that she does have "deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and their lives under occupation" (the Palestinian territories have been militarily occupied by Israel since 1967), but she also feels a responsibility to her Jewish friends.
The model made sure to point out that her "hopes and dreams for the Palestinians" do not include "harming a Jewish person."
"Terrorizing innocent people is inconsistent and does no good to the 'Free Palestine' movement," she said.
“This [misconception] has fueled a painful, decades-long cycle of retaliation by both sides (in which no innocent civilian, Palestinian or Israeli, deserves to be a victim) and helps perpetuate the false idea that to be pro-Palestine is to be anti-Jewish.”
Gigi added that she believes that “every human deserves basic rights, treatment and safety; regardless of nationality, religion, ethnicity or place of birth."
"I know my words will never be enough or heal the deep wounds of so many people," she concluded, "but I pray for the safety of innocent lives, always."
Both Gigi and her sister, Bella Hadid, have been vocal advocates for Palestine for years. Their father, Mohamed Hadid, is of Palestinian origin, while their mother, Yolanda, is from the Netherlands.
