We are on the verge of autumn, while winter is not far to "knock" and many people want to be sure to have good health during the change of seasons.
The key to strong immunity often involves a combination of smart and healthy practices this time of year.
Dr. Nayan Patel spoke to Fox News and shared three top tips for you to have strong immunity during the changing seasons and cold weather.
Keep skin hydrated
The doctor recommended that you keep the skin hydrated to help prevent water loss and irritation as factors that "wake up" during the drop in temperatures. "When the air becomes much drier in the colder months it is important to hydrate the skin to maintain its moisture," said the doctor.
Make sure you get vitamin D
Dr. Patel said that getting vitamin D throughout the year is important for strengthening the immune system.
"It helps strengthen the immune system, improve mental state, maintain weight and regulate blood sugar levels," he added.
But it can be difficult to get vitamin D from the sun during the winter or fall. Eating foods with vitamin D can be helpful, so choose fatty fish, cinnamon and milk.
Keep hydrating
Staying hydrated in the cold months is very important for our health. The body's need for water in cool weather is just as necessary as in summer. "Dry air and cold temperatures can lead to fluid loss," the doctor continues. Excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption can quickly dehydrate people before they know it. Drinking plenty of water and fluids during the cool, cold months is an important element of having strong immunity.
