Spanish police have arrested three unidentified Real Madrid players, while a fourth is under investigation, after allegedly sharing a sex video with a minor. Their arrest has added to the furor about sexism and the behavior of men in Spanish football.
The players, who are not minors, were released after data on their cellphones was seized, the police said in a statement Thursday.
The case concerns a lawsuit filed by the mother of a 16-year-old girl in the Canary Islands over an alleged sex tape, police said. The girl claimed that the relations were with the consent of the parties, but the recording of sexual acts was done without her consent.
The arrests come amid allegations of sexual abuse against former Spanish soccer federation director Luis Rubiales, who kissed soccer player Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain's World Cup win.
According to the El Confidencial newspaper, the main subject of the investigation is a player who is suspected of recording sexual intercourse with the 16-year-old.
Real Madrid released a statement saying only that four youth team players had been questioned by police "in relation to a complaint about an alleged private video via the WhatsApp messaging system."
