Not all people have the same relationship with birthdays. Some want a big party, balloons, people around, photos and congratulations, while others pray that no one remembers their birthday and have a normal day.

According to relationship and family therapist Leeor Gal, there are several reasons why people feel sad and don't want to celebrate their birthday. One of the reasons is related to the comparison we make with others. In a year, we make a resume of our lives and compare ourselves to our peers. Often, we set certain expectations, which we don't always achieve, and this, on birthdays, makes us sad. Also, growing up by a year makes us think that we are getting older and time is passing before our eyes.

According to Gal, some people may experience sadness on their birthday because during their childhood, the people around them, especially their parents, did not give much importance to their birthday. Even in cases where parents or family members have organized giant parties, when children simply wanted a party with the most expensive people, it still plays a big role in the lack of desire to have fun and be happy for birthdays.

It's okay for you to consider your birthday like any other day, it's enough to think about your wishes and not to please the people who want to celebrate it for you.
