The dangerous criminal is arrested by the police after discovering his passion

A dangerous fugitive linked to the Camorra, a violent Italian criminal organization, has been arrested in Greece after authorities used his love of the Naples soccer team to capture him.

Vincenzo La Porta, 60, was caught on the island of Corfu on Friday while riding a motorbike. He was considered one of Italy's 100 most dangerous fugitives before his arrest.

La Porta had been on the run for 11 years after being sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison for money laundering and tax evasion in Naples.

Italian police said they worked with their Greek counterparts to track the fugitive in Greece for several months, tracking financial movements linked to his close associates and social media posts by Napoli soccer fans in Corfu, in which he apparently appeared often.

La Porta appeared to seal his fate when he was photographed in May celebrating Napoli's victory in Italy's top soccer league on the balcony of a restaurant in Corfu, wearing a baseball cap and a blue Napoli scarf. The police had watched the fans in case he was there.

The victory was a huge moment for Napoli, the first time in more than two decades - since the days of Diego Maradona - that the team had won the Serie A title.

Greek police said he was arrested on Friday.

"He was betrayed by his passion for football and for the Napoli team," police said in a statement. "With the victory of the championship, La Porta could not resist without celebrating".
