A woman is to be prosecuted after she is accused of defrauding and bullying her teenage daughter online for an entire year.

Kendra Gail Licari, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, was charged earlier this week following a year-long investigation that began when Beal City Schools received a complaint about cyberbullying.

It was Gail's daughter and her boyfriend at the time who were the victims of the bullying, so Licari worked with the boy's mother and school officials to figure out who might be behind the messages.

The incidents took place outside the school premises and without the use of school equipment.

The school sought help from law enforcement in January 2021, and by April the FBI's computer crimes division was involved.

The federal agency was able to block the IP addresses used to send the messages and found that they were linked to Licari.

The mother is accused of using virtual private networks (VPNs) to hide her location, and even made it appear as if the messages were coming from the area where the other teenagers were.

She used slang and abbreviations to make it look like the messages were coming from another teenager. The prosecution compiled 349 pages containing harassing messages on social networks and in private inboxes.

After everything was revealed, Licari admitted in a full confession that she was behind the messages. However, it remains unclear why.

The 42-year-old woman is accused of stalking a minor, using a computer to commit a crime and preventing the police from solving the case faster.

Licari is scheduled to appear on December 29 for a hearing that will determine if there is enough evidence to sentence him to prison.
