The late Aaron Carter's older brother Nick is heartbroken following the singer's death at age 34, he wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday, saying that despite their "complicated relationship," his love for Carter "never faded."

"I've always hoped that he would somehow, one day, walk a healthy path and find the help he so desperately needed," Nick Carter, a member of the Backstreet Boys, wrote in a caption alongside photos of them together years. "Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real culprit.”

"I'm going to miss my brother more than he can imagine," Nick added. “I love you Chizz, now you have a chance to finally have the peace you never found here on earth…. Lord, please take care of my little brother.”

Aaron Carter, who rose to fame with the songs "I Want Candy" and "That's How I Beat Shaq," was found dead in a bathtub. The star, who became popular among teenagers in the late 90s, was found dead in his home.

The singer has spoken out about mental health issues in the past, but once denied having substance abuse problems in an interview with CNN.

Carter had a rocky relationship with his siblings: In 2019, Nick announced that he and their sister, Angel, had filed a restraining order against their brother, saying in a statement that his younger brother allegedly had "intentions to kill my wife and unborn child". Aaron Carter denied the allegations, saying he didn't mean to hurt anyone.

Aaron started performing at the age of 7 and released his first album in 1997, when he was only 9 years old. By the age of 13, he had three successful albums. Like many kids of his generation, Aaron's career had a dark side. In 2019, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

In 2018, he released Love, his first album in 16 years, but mental health and addiction issues affected all areas of his life.
