The famous Spanish footballer, Gerard Pique suddenly announced that Saturday's game at the Nou Camp will be the last of his career on the field. The 35-year-old confirmed his departure through a statement posted on social networks.
"I've always said that there will never be another team after Barcelona and that's how it will be. Football has given me everything. Barca has given me everything. You, my fans, have forgiven me for everything. Now that the dreams of that child came true, it's time to tell you that this journey is coming to an end." - declared Pique, thus shocking the Spaniards and all his fans in the world.
After the youth internship at "La Masia", Pique went to Manchester United for four years, to return in 2008 to "Camp Nou". So far he has played 615 games and scored 52 goals. He won eight Spanish league titles, 7 Copa del Rey, six Spanish Super Cups, three Champions Leagues, three European Super Cups and three Club World Cups. Pique was world champion with Spain in 2010 and European champion in 2012.
To de-dramatize the decision to withdraw from football, he added:
"You know me anyway. Sooner or later I'll be back. See you at Camp Nou. Long live Barcelona, ??forever!"
Pique retired from international football in 2018 after winning 102 caps for Spain, and claimed the 2012 European Championship and 2010 World Cup.
