Hollywood star Tom Cruise is set to score another career success as he is likely to be the actor to star in the first film to be shot in space.

He's reportedly teaming up with director Doug Liman for a film that includes a space shoot.

"I think Tom Cruise is taking us into space, he's taking the world into space," Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Donna Langley told BBC News. "This is the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom. Let's get a rocket to the Space Station and go."

Langley revealed that most of the film will be shot on Earth and the climax will be when "the character [goes] into space".

Cruise will be the first actor to shoot in outer space on the International Space Station.

The International Space Station serves as a home for astronaut crews and is used as a research laboratory for the space environment.
