Canadian actor Ryan Grantham has been sentenced to life in prison after being accused of killing his mother, Barbara Waite, in 2020.
The 24-year-old actor, who played the role of Jeffery Augustine in the famous series "Riverdale", has been convicted by the Columbian Supreme Court in the United Kingdom, of second-degree murder.
He pleaded guilty after admitting to the crime and claiming that he had shot his mother in the back of the head while she was playing the piano at home. What makes the crime even more horrifying is the fact that the actor then filmed the incident with a Go-Pro camera. Ryan filmed the mother's body and said: “I shot her in the back of the head. At that moment, she must have known it was me. I killed my mother."
After drinking beer and consuming marijuana, 4 hours after the crime, the actor took with him 3 pistols and 13 Molotov cocktails that he had prepared himself, camping tools and escaped by car. After 200 km, he surrendered at the police station in the city of Hope and said: "I killed my mother."
During the trial, the 24-year-old's legal team stated that the actor has been dealing with anxiety and clinical depression and before killing his mother, he wanted to kill himself and hurt others.
The court has decided with a final decision that for the first 14 years of his sentence, Ryan will not be eligible for parole.
